REPORT ON 41ST FARMERS DAY CELEBRATION AT AKYEM BOMSO – KWAEBIBIREM MUNICIPAL ON 5TH DECEMBER, 2025
In this year’s Farmers’ Day Celebration, the Kwaebibirem Municipal Assembly prepared adequately with the support of the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Nti on the national farmers Day theme; Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.
The Chief of Akyem Bomso wrote to the Municipal Assembly to host this year’s Farmers’ Day. Upon the acceptance by the chief, elders and the people, the proposed venue for the celebration was confirmed and held at Akyem Bomso. As part of the activities, series of meetings were held prior to the celebration day. Various sub-committees were tasked to take charge of the following
1. Refreshment & entertainment / protocol 2.Grounds 3.Transport 4.Publicity 5.Awards
Nomination of hardworking and deserving farmers for awards was done by Agric Extension Officers stationed at the four zones in the Municipality. Further, intensive farm inspections of nominated farmers were conducted by five management member team.
The Department of Agriculture finally selected twenty-one (21) farmers out of the lot to be the awardees for the occasion. The farmers were selected across the Municipality for the various agricultural commodities cultivated in the Municipality. Best cocoa farmer was selected by Cocobod and one best worker was also selected by the Department of Agriculture totally 23 awardees.
The event started at exactly 11:45am with the arrival of the representative of the Member of Parliament, Hon. Alexander Kwadjo Agyare and the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Nti and his entourage. It was followed by, Barima Ogofo Mintah II Chief of Akyem Bomso and his kinsmen and other chiefs from surrounding communities.
The opening prayer was said by Rev. Daniel Otu, followed by introduction of dignitaries by Mr. Abrokwa Boateng, the Municipal Information Officer (M.I.O) who doubled as the MC for the function.
After the introduction of chairperson by Mr. Abrokwa Boateng, the chairperson gave his acceptance remarks. He encouraged farmers to always thank the farmer and eat food that are produce in Ghana.
The Municipal Agriculture Director, Madam Joyce Kyeraa in delivering her speech said she is grateful to Almighty God for yet another opportunity in honoring of our gallant farmers, fishers and all the actors along the agricultural value chain for their invaluable contribution to our sustenance and for the development of Mother Ghana.
The major purpose of our convening here today is to honor and celebrate the hard work, dedication and achievements of farmers, fishers, actors along the value chain while recognizing their vital role in ensuring food security and economic growth.”

It underscores the need to support Ghanaian farmers to increase food production and ensure Ghanaian’ have access to enough and nutritious food. Eat Ghana is to inspire consumers to prioritize local food, support local farmers and strengthens the domestic agricultural value chain while protecting the environment and ensuring economic viability for farmers.
The Director in concluding her speech urged all farmers, especially the award winners to work harder to win regional and national awards. She also thanked the Management of the Municipal Assembly for their continuous support to the Department of Agriculture and funding of the Farmers’ Day Celebration every year and expressed her gratitude to others who supported in various ways.
Honourable Emmanuel Kofi Nti (MCE), in his speech also commented Today, we come together to celebrate Farmers’ Day and honour the hardworking individuals who are responsible for producing the food that feeds us and the clothing that keeps us warm. Farmers work tirelessly to provide for their families and the nation and their efforts are essential to our well-being. Without them, many of us would go hungry or be without the necessities of life.
On this Farmers’ Day, let us all take a moment to reflect on the amazing contributions that farmers make to our society. From the food that we eat to the clothes that we wear, farmers are the unsung heroes who help to sustain us and keep us healthy. Let us show our appreciation for all that they do and recognize the vital role that they play in our lives.
But despite their important contributions, farmers often face challenges and difficulties. They may struggle with fluctuating markets, rising costs, and unpredictable weather patterns. It is our responsibility to support and empower farmers so that they can continue to provide for us and future generations.
Nana Chairman, the prescribe solution to ensure food supply stability and the resilience of global agriculture is to build a robust, resilient and equitable food system that can withstand shocks. Under the leadership of his Excellency the President of Ghana has rolled out the “Feed Ghana Programme”.

In line with the theme for this year’s National Farmers’ Day celebration, the reason why the Government rolled out its flagship program is to deliver target solutions to the problems within the agricultural sector.
This theme is relevant now because the Feed Ghana Programme seeks to accelerate the transformation of Ghana’s agricultural sector, ensure food security, create sustainable employment, and enhance economic growth by reducing import dependency while boosting domestic production and export. Feed Ghana emphasizes the importance to increase production to meet the country’s nutritional need. This initiative is to support Ghanaian farmers to produce more food, reduce reliance on imports and ensure food security.
food security has declined dramatically in many developing countries including Ghana. Food security is the state of having reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food. This means that all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.
Nana Chairman, this year’s theme is to encourage Ghanaians to prioritize and consume locally produced foods, support local farmers and promote Ghanaian food and also ensure sustainable agricultural practices, invest in the next generation of farmers and protect the environment for future food security.
A key component of the Feed Ghana initiative is the Poultry Industry Revitalization Programme, which aims to increase poultry production in collaboration with the Poultry Farmers’ Association. The project will provide incentives to promote household poultry (Nkokonkitinkiti) farming and boost domestic consumption which was lunched on 12th November, 2025 at Kumasi.
The Department in collaboration with the Minerals Commission of Ghana is implementing the Alternative Livelihood Project thus, oil palm and coconut seedlings have been received and distributed to farmers within the municipality. In all, 62,276 oil palm, 1,947 coconut seedlings were received and distributed to farmers at each operational area. The beneficiary farmers are made up of 276 males and 76 females totally 352 farmers and estimated area covered was about 425.58 hectares.
The MCE, in his final remarks congratulated all the Award Winners, especially the Municipal Overall Best Farmer for 2024, for their hard work and dedication. I hope these modest awards will inspire us all to work harder to ensure our dear Municipality achieve a tremendous increase in food production, improve food security and also attract the needed investment into the agriculture sector.
The Director of Agriculture led the Municipal Chief Executive, the Member of Parliament, Nananom and other dignitaries to inspect farm produce brought by farmers as well as items to be presented to award winners.
There was presentation of awards to deserving farmers. 22 farmers and 1 Agricultural officer received awards.
The overall Municipal Best Farmer was Mr. Charles Agyei Tenkorang and he received 1 Tricycle, 1 pair of Wellington boot, 1 knap sack sprayer, weedicides. Cutlasses.
Mr. Isaac Mantey, the 1st Runner up Farmer received 1 motor bike, weedicides, 1 pair of Wellington boot, 1 knap sack sprayer, cutlasses.
The overall Best Woman Farmer went to Mrs Victora Dede, and she received 1 double decker fridge, wax print, cutlasses, Weedicides.
Winners of the other disciplines received various items.
The Overall Best Farmer for 2023 handed over his crown to the newly crowned Best Farmer. She encouraged her successor to be hard working at all times so as to boost agriculture production in the Municipality and the country at large.
The crowned Municipal Best Farmer for the year 2025, in his brief remarks thanked the entire gathering and his fellow farmers for their contribution towards Agriculture. He urged them to be very industrious to help produce more to feed their communities, the entire Municipality and the nation at large. He also assured the gathering that, he will work hard to improve upon his farming business in the coming years.
The MC thanked everyone for making the program a success.
