KWAEBIBIREM INAUGURATES GOVERNMENT APPOINTEES, ELECTS PRESIDING MEMBER AND CONFIRM MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE NOMINEE ON 7/04/25
In a historic ceremony on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the Kwaebibirem Municipal Assembly confirmed the President’s choice for Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), elected a Presiding Member, and swore in eight (8) new government officials. The third municipal assembly’s composition was completed with the oaths of the 18 appointees chosen by the President of the Republic of Ghana to serve alongside the 59 elected assembly members. The Magistrate of Asamenkese Court, His Worship George Davis, presided over the swearing-in ceremony and administered the oath of office and secrecy. The magistrate stressed the value of service, honesty, and confidentiality in local government in his remarks.
The Municipal Electoral Commissioner presided over the assembly’s election for the Presiding Member post immediately after the inauguration. Hon. Adams Kabore and Hon. Ophelia Kyewah were the two contenders for the position. According to the Local Governance Act, neither candidate received the necessary two-thirds majority in the first or second round of voting. In a show of solidarity and collaboration, Hon. Ophelia Kyewah urged her followers to support Hon. Adams Kabore by voluntarily resigning prior to the third round. Hon. Adams Kabore won by a landslide in the next vote, which had 24 “yes” votes, 4 “no” votes, and 2 ballots spoiled. His Worship George Davis swore him into office right away, and he formally became the Presiding Member of the Kwaebibirem Municipal Assembly.
Hon. Adams Kabore thanked the assembly members for their faith in him in his acceptance speech. He commended Hon. Ophelia Kyewah for her support and maturity and noted the process’s peaceful and democratic nature. With a focus on building unity among members and making sure the assembly runs efficiently to suit the local development needs, Hon. Adams Kabore promised to serve with humility, fairness, and dedication. In order to create a robust and forward-thinking Kwaebibirem Municipal Assembly, he urged all parties involved—assembly members, technocrats, and community leaders—to collaborate.
The assembly then confirmed Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Nti, the President’s choice for Municipal Chief Executive, after the appointment of the new Presiding Member. Hon. Adams Kabore asked assembly members to prioritize the needs of the municipality and fully support the nominee prior to the vote. In his speech, Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Nti promised to put in endless, tiresome effort to promote development throughout the municipality. Both elected and appointed assembly members gave Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Nti a 98% support after the confirmation vote produced unequivocal “Yes” votes, no rejections, and no spoiled ballots.
As he took the platform to deliver his acceptance speech, Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Nti was clearly moved by the assembly’s display of confidence. He thanked the members of the assembly for their resounding support and the President of the Republic for nominating him. Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Nti made it clear that he will carry out his duties as MCE with integrity, diligence, and a strong sense of duty. He stated his plans to create jobs, especially for young people, and to improve healthcare, education, infrastructure, and sanitation. Additionally, he reassured the assembly that he would lead with transparency and encouraged all members of the assembly and inhabitants to work together with his office for the good of the entire municipality.
Traditional leaders, representatives from different government agencies, members of the media, and regional and local dignitaries, including Regional Minister Hon. Rita Akosua Awatey and MP Hon. Alexander Kwadwo Agyare, graced the event. Their attendance emphasized the day’s importance and the group’s dedication to community development and democratic governance. A solid beginning for the newly established assembly was indicated by the day’s proceedings, which were conducted peacefully and characterized by unity, transparency, and decisiveness. The Kwaebibirem Municipal Assembly is poised to pursue an inclusive and progressive agenda for the Municipal’s residents under the direction of Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Nti, the Municipal Chief Executive, and Hon. Adams Kabore, the Presiding Member.
