The Tree for Life Reforestation Initiative was planned by the Kwaebibirem Municipal Assembly on Thursday, June 5, 2025, in conjunction with the Forestry Commission and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) as part of World Environment Day celebrations. The program’s main objectives were to restore degraded areas, spread a tree-planting culture among residents, and promote environmental sustainability by planting trees on reclaimed municipal properties.
Numerous stakeholders were present at the event, including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Nti, the Municipal Assembly’s management and staff, representatives from the Forestry Commission and NADMO, traditional leaders, assembly members, students, youth organizations, and community members. The involvement and presence of these stakeholders demonstrated the group’s dedication to tackling the problems of land degradation and deforestation.
The day’s events included a ceremonial MCE launch and a large-scale tree planting event at a few municipally owned reclaimed locations. Key players gave speeches highlighting the necessity of implementing sustainable land-use practices, community involvement in greening programs, and the significance of environmental protection. The MCE urged everyone in the community to embrace tree planting as a way of life and a civic duty, rather than merely as a one-day event. He reaffirmed that the Assembly would continue to back such efforts in the future.
NADMO and Forestry Commission representatives gave informative speeches about the socioeconomic and ecological advantages of reforestation. To guarantee the growth and longevity of the recently planted trees, they also exhorted the neighborhood to take care of them. On their side, traditional leaders praised the idea and promised to support it fully in order to assure its long-term viability. A strong sense of local ownership of the project was exhibited by the community’s enthusiasm and commitment, particularly among the youth.
The Tree for Life Reforestation Initiative was a timely reminder of the pressing need to preserve and repair the ecosystem, and it was a great success. Stakeholder unity was promoted, and the significance of locally driven climate action was reaffirmed. In the months to come, the Kwaebibirem Municipal Assembly and its partners are dedicated to tracking the growth of the trees that have been planted and extending the program to include further degraded regions of the municipality.
